Helping our friends in Lytton
In response to the Lytton Creek Fire in 2021, Savage Society established a relief fund to support the people of Lytton, BC, including friends, family, Elders, young ones, and even four-legged companions, who had been displaced and affected by the wildfire.
tlKumcheen, the place where the blood mixes at the convergence of the great rivers, is home to our artistic director Kevin Loring.
The fund raised a total of $534,388, all of which is directed toward supporting the community. To date, $448,000 has been paid out to 224 recipients.
Fund distribution was guided by a N’lakapamux community advisory committee to ensure support reached those in need in line with the spirit and intent of the fundraiser. We partnered with The Lookout Society to disperse the funds. The Lookout Society distributed fundsas directed by our N’lakapamux-led community advisory committee.
While administering the fund required staff time, volunteer effort, and small office expenses like postage, neither Savage Society nor The Lookout Society charged these costs against the fund. This means that 100% of the money raised is directed to support recipients and the community.
Recipients of the fund included both Lytton First Nation members and other Lytton residents whose homes were destroyed in either the 2021 or 2022 fires.
In addition to financial support, Savage Society, our community partners, and volunteers collected and distributed donated goods through the Lytton Fire Community Response Team.
Kwukstumx. We are grateful to everyone who contributed and stood with the people of Lytton.
