In the summer of 2020, the music series became The Backyard Sessions and was part of VirtualFeast.ca, a collaborative project with BC Indigenous arts presenters 2 Rivers Remix Society, Full Circle: First Nations’ Performance & Vines Art Festival, with every performance live-streamed. More than 40 different Indigenous acts performed over two months, from emerging youth to musical elders in a wide variety of genres: folk to funk, hip-hop to house, pop to rock. Curated once again by Kelsey Kanatan Wavey, The Backyard Sessions were hugely successful, with an estimated reach of more than 17k on Facebook.
In 2019 Savage Society presented the first Summer Music Series featuring Indigenous talent in several events on stages throughout New Westminster. Beginning on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the series included the StrEAT Food Truck Festival, Fridays on Front and the Pride Edition.
Curated by Kelsey Kanatan Wavey, the line-up featured Ronnie Dean Harris, Margit Sky Project, Sister Says, DJ Kookum, Mob Bounce, Curtis Clear Sky & the Constellationz, Boogie the Beat, Corvin Mack, Kwiigay, Caitlin Anne Nicole and Ta’kaiya Blaney.
