Savage Society is inviting proposals from skilled Facilitators to guide our organization through a Strategic Planning process, culminating in a full board session scheduled for November 14, 2025, in Vancouver, BC.
WHO WE ARE:
We are an Indigenous-led arts organization dedicated to telling our own stories by sourcing traditional and contemporary Indigenous perspectives. Founded and led by Artistic Director Kevin Loring, we serve as a platform for Indigenous artists to develop and produce work that reflects our worldview, drawing from traditional stories, cosmologies, and contemporary realities for presentation in both professional and community settings.
Our approach is rooted in a land-based dramaturgical process, exemplified by our ongoing “Songs of the Land” project in Lytton, which centers the land and traditional storytelling protocols as the foundation of our creative work. We reclaim the word “Savage” to mean humanity in its natural state, challenging ignorance and preconceived notions, and striving for a society where all are equally human.
Our core values include Story Sovereignty, Community Activation, Cultural Embodiment, Interconnection, and Mentorship. We are committed to anti-oppression, diversity, inclusion, and the creation of safe, respectful environments for all participants and staff.
THE FACILITATOR WILL:
- Together with the Strategic Planning Committee, design and lead a strategic planning session with the full board, focusing on reviewing and refreshing our mission, mandate, values, and developing a new vision statement.
- Support the committee in establishing clear goals, success metrics, and a timeline for the plan, aligned with Savage Society’s four-year and long-term objectives.
- Guide discussions on policy and bylaw review, ensuring our governance structures reflect both compliance (e.g., BC Societies Act, CRA) and Indigenous/decolonial approaches.
- Foster inclusive, consensus-based dialogue, making space for Indigenous ways of knowing and traditional protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience facilitating strategic planning for not-for-profit and/or arts organizations.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance, protocols, and decolonial facilitation practices; Indigenous facilitators are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of Open Space structure for gatherings
