Coyote and Rabbit Save the People from the Monsters

On November 7th, 2024 Savage Society had the honour of participating in the presentation of a retelling of the Nlaka’pamux creation story, COYOTE AND RABBIT SAVE THE PEOPLE FROM THE MONSTERS | Asht-eetlm-a-timxw (Songs of the Land) at Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux School!

  • "This ancient Spetakwl or creation story is so pertinent to the struggles the community has faced over the last 5 years. It speaks of invaders attacking the animals and people, setting them against each other and forcing a situation where they have to come together to fight for their community. But it also speaks of the need to come together to heal and to let the tears flow to release the monsters from your mind. ."

    - Kevin Loring

  • ”After a five-year absence, this performance is a symbol of our return to normalcy as our community continues its rebuilding efforts. It was more than just a play - it was a celebration of culture, resilience, and the stories that bind us. Through the shared experience of creating and watching the play, we were reminded of the strength and unity of our people.
